Across the continent, automotive manufacturers, suppliers, and training providers are adapting to a new reality: electrification is here to stay. Yet, while the transition is accelerating, the education and training systems that prepare future engineers often lag behind emerging technologies.
In particular, skills linked to electric powertrains like batteries, electric drives, control systems, and diagnostics are becoming essential in almost every branch of vehicle design and production. Companies increasingly need specialists who understand not only electrical systems, but also how mechanical, electronic, and digital components interact. These are system-level competences, and they represent the backbone of the green transition in transport.
This is where e-Powertrain comes in.
Through research, stakeholder engagement, and course design, the project identifies where current training stops and where industry demand begins. The result is a new, flexible learning framework that allows engineers, technicians, and educators to update their skills quickly, ensuring that Europe’s workforce remains competitive and ready for the future.
By combining expertise from Sweden and Greece, e-Powertrain also tests how smaller-scale cooperation can create lasting impact: connecting research institutions, industry partners, and vocational education providers to produce training that reflects real technological change.
As electric vehicles become the new standard, the demand for engineers with powertrain expertise is rising fast.
